Venue Spotlight: The Pump House B&B in Bloomsburg, PA

The Pump House B&B holds a special place in our hearts.

Back in 2016, we got married there. We chose this wedding venue tucked away in the woods of Bloomsburg, PA because it felt like a little retreat away from our regular busy lives – and we were able to bring our families and friends along for the ride.

It was shortly after our wedding that we decided to pursue our dreams of becoming wedding photographers, and after a few years we’ve had the chance to photograph a wedding there again. It feels like things have really come full circle for us as we’ve brought together our passion for photography with this place that holds a lot of beautiful memories for us personally.

While this little background obviously makes us a little biased, we wanted to share our thoughts about what makes The Pump House B&B so special. More importantly – if you’re looking at maybe having your own wedding celebration there, we’d love to share with you some of the things we’ve learned about the place over the years – both as people who got married there, and as wedding photographers that have seen other celebrations on the property.

Main Attractions

The Pump House B&B is more than a wedding venue for most couple’s who book a wedding there.
It becomes a little bit like home for you (+ family & friends who can stay over in the awesome Season houses on the grounds). We called it a “retreat” earlier – and for good reason.

When we got married here, we had access to the venue in the week leading up to our wedding – to drop things off, start decorating, etc. Over the course of our 3 day wedding weekend, we were able to put up our closest family and best friends on the property. This made it extremely convenient for everyone – and our parent’s really loved that it really simplified the logistics of finding a place for our grandparents to stay. This is because most of our families would have to travel quite a bit to the venue – so being able to just come right there and not worry about getting checked into a hotel or anything really made life a breeze.

There are so many beautiful spaces around the property, as well as plenty of interesting art pieces (paintings, tile work, original paintings) by the innkeeper Doug Hopkins.

The ceremony site nestled in the woods along the Catawissa Creek. The choice for reception held in the main Brick Barn Hall (our personal choice – which can accommodate up to 180 guests and features lofty ceilings, exposed brick, natural window light during the day, rustic barn doors, and more!) or the more intimate Studio Hall (can accommodate up to 75 and filled with original artwork). And little natural nuances like a fallen tree that make for a sweet portrait location for the newly married bride & groom.

Why It’s Great for Weddings

As we’ve journeyed to experience many weddings in the course of the last few years, both as photographers and guests ourselves, we’ve struggled to find a place that has quite the same uniqueness and atmosphere as The Pump House B&B.

As a wedding venue, we found it to be really ideal because the property is peaceful, cell service is virtually non-existent (might sound like a con to some – but once you learn to relax and disconnect, it’s an amazing thing – plus they have a landline!), it features a variety of natural features and rustic charm, and it served as a gathering space for more than just a tick-the-box wedding day. Being able to host your closest family and friends, see many of them the evening before for your rehearsal, gather around a firepit and roast marshmallows, and wake up the morning after your wedding to be treated to an excellent homemade breakfast courtesy of the staff – it’s hard to find anything wrong with the experience.

As we revisited The Pump House as wedding photographers to capture Sierra & Tim’s wedding day (click that link to see a photo gallery!), it really confirmed this as a beautiful wedding venue for us. Sure, it still resonates with us personally, but seeing as our couple was able to experience so much joy and talk to us about their reasons for picking it (which were much the same as our own), it is so obviously a place that attracts nature lovers and couple’s who want a non-traditional wedding that is about the celebration of love, family and friends.
