Setberg Campground turned out to be one of our favorite locations to end our 2nd day in Iceland.

As we took the loop around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, we were treated to the wild diversity of landscapes and weather that Iceland has to offer. Arrival at Setberg Campground also came with a reprieve from the rain and fog, with the skies opening up with a nice display of color as the sun began to set with the beautiful view of Kirkjufell in the background.

Our GPS took us to the wrong location, but we were able to find our way by actually reading signs for the location. It still was somewhat confusing, probably to be contributed to the fact that this camp site is actually, more or less, someone’s backyard. Payment is 1,000 ISK (about $10 USD) per person, and they only accept cash payment and made at the house alongside the camper parking area.

For this evening in early September, we had the entire camp site to ourselves. The campground has very basic amenities, a cold water sink for washing dishes and brushing teeth, and an unheated restroom area. We were not bothered by these basic amenities, and for the cost being about 1/3rd that off most other campgrounds, there is no reason to complain. After all, camping isn’t all about convenience and luxury, right?

As with many campgrounds in Iceland, the view is really what sold us on this place. After some serious nerding out down the road while we took photos (in the rain) of the mountain Kirkjufell (seen in Game of Thrones), having it right in the background was a nice touch. The mixture of quiet and a beautiful landscape made falling right asleep easy for both of us.

Overall, Setberg Campground is well worth the visit if you are in the area.
