We’ll say this now: Jenn & Neepak’s engagement session was so fun. We’d do it again it a heart beat!
These two have been amazing since the first email we received from them. We could sense the excitement they had for their photos together, and we really hit it off on a personal level, too. While they live out in the heart of New Jersey, they were totally willing to come down our way for a really unique engagement shoot.
We met these two at the classic Black River Roasters in NJ, and after booking us got to talking about their engagement ideas. The one word that really stuck out that they mentioned was “whimsical”, and we worked with them to create a shoot that was distinctly their own. Balloons, home made signs, fairy lights, and great outfits really helped bring things together.
But the icing on the cake?
We received a special invitation from Night Lights Events to photograph the Pocono Lantern Festival – which just so happened to align with the date we had already scheduled their engagement shoot. NLE hooked us up with free event passes, a smores kit, a bunch of lanterns and lighters, and so on. We had seen pictures of these types of fests in the past, but couldn’t help but recommend we add this spectactular opportunity to their shoot. After all, it really felt like something that would be unique and fit the atmosphere they were going for!!
When you get to the end of this blog post and see some of the shots from the lantern festivals, you will absolutely fall in love. Seeing hundreds of lanterns being released into the sky while really mellow music plays under the night sky is really breathtaking, and probably one of the more beautiful “man made” things we’ve witnessed.
Maybe the last thing we should mention – while these two looked great in their photos, a random person watching us take their photos also took a phone video of us. So, long story short, we tried lighting a lantern ourselves (because when at a lantern festival, do as the other lantern festival participants do) – and ended up…accidentally…setting it on fire and it just barely floated away. We now have a lantern sitting in our closet at home (was an extra from the night) and we’re considering taking it out to practice for next time! 🙂
Check these two out in their amazing whimsical engagement shoot!

A special thanks goes out to Night Lights Events for making this happen. It was a really unique experience, our clients loved it, and we loved it. 10/10 – would shoot again!
