Jane & Adam’s engagement session had to be one of our favorites this year (and that is saying a lot because we had so many greats!).
It all started when Jane found us on Instagram and decided to reach out for us to shoot their wedding at the gorgeous Foxfire Mountain House next year (2020 we can’t wait!). After a few emails, we met with these two on Skype and hit it off immediately. We loved the approach they were taking to wedding planning – in particular how they decided to choose vendors based on “vibes” instead of really traditional research.
It makes our hearts melt to be given the opportunity to photograph these two, and it turns out we have an incredible amount in common that meeting at their newly bought home (which was once Adam’s grandparents) felt like we were going to hang out with old friends. So – some of the things we have in common?
-
We’re both high school sweethearts
-
We both bought family houses recently – we just bought Jes’ parents house back in May and have been steadily fixing things up to make it our own!
-
We both have pretty rad Instagram presences (you can find us here, and Jane has a pretty rad online shop)
-
…and even their choice of wedding venue gave us similar vibes to our own wedding at The Pump House B&B where the locations are rented for more than a day, family & friends can stay on site, and the entire focus is on bringing these people together to really celebrate the joy of marriage. That wedding is going to be so rad – we swear!
Anyways – talking a little bit more about this e-sesh. We started things off in a close to finished room in their new home. They actually had construction guys actively working on other spaces in the house while we were there, but this was a perfect little spot that we were able to make cozy with some blankets, pillows, candles, and (of course) wine. These photos just go to show that sometimes simple is best and using a space that is really close to home (sometimes literally!) often makes the best engagement session location.
After about an hour of shooting together at their home, we made our way over to Dwight Morrow High School. The funny story about this 2nd location is that it was very spur of the moment. We had initially lined up another location, but it ended up falling through. While Chris was actively searching for another place on his phone during our drive up, we passed by this school on the way to their house and said “that’s it!!” The mix of architecture and downright perfect fall foliage just screamed to us.
So – we drove these two to this location, and as we pulled in they pointed out this is where they had gone to high school. What a small world! We’d say that makes even more special and perfect because it really reflects these two in a lot of ways!
PS: for the TV nerds out there, this school was also featured in some exterior shots in Sabrina the Teenage Witch (get out your nostalgia glasses!).
We’d say this engagement shoot really speaks for itself – you can really tell how the love radiates between these two and we’re so excited to be photographing their wedding next year!
