Gilbertsville Farmhouse | New York Wedding Photography

One of the major themes of Jennifer & Don’s wedding at the Gilbertsville Farmhouse in upstate NY was surprises. It’s something you might not pick up on just by looking at photos – but almost every aspect of this wedding was a surprise for the family & friends that came.

These two put together an incredible wedding in a fairly short time frame. By the time they found us and we had their engagement photos down in our neck of the woods at Columcille Megalith Park, there was only about a month left to go before we’d be seeing them again at their wedding day!

Chatting with these two – we learned that they would have family and friends traveling in for the big day – some from places as far as the Philippines! Many came on buses that picked them up at a local hotel where they were staying for the weekend. Oh – did we mention that none of the guests knew where the wedding would be taking place? Surprise #1 was that the wedding celebration was going to be held at this gorgeous wedding venue!

As the day unfolded, there were plenty of other surprises as well. As people arrived to the farm, they couldn’t have imagined that cocktail hour would take place in the old milking barn (everything inch of the cocktail hour and reception barn was beautifully decorated by C&A Event Planning), and then the reception would move upstairs into the barn decked out with lights, chandeliers, and more – with style added by these two that made it extra special.

From their officiant being a surprise to their guests and then towards the end of the night – the biggest surprise was the fireworks display! It was AMAZING!!

There was easily so much to love about this wedding day. Jen & Don have such a great chemistry together – and Don’s optimism was more than infectious on the day.

There was a threat of rain in the forecast all day, and it rained for a little bit causing the ceremony to be delayed slightly. While these types of things would often cause the ceremony to be moved indoors, these two were adamant about having it outside (how can you not want that with the beautiful view of rolling hills in the background?).

Incredibly – the rain let up for JUST enough time that guests could get to their seats and the ceremony could go on. Almost immediately after – it started drizzling (we got family & bridal party photos taken care of in just the nick of time!), then even more rain moved in. And once more…the rain let up just in time for us to go take some bride & groom portraits – with the most incredibly vibrant sunset that had such a beautiful purple haze!

While Mother Nature wanted to keep us all on our toes, at the end of the day Jennifer and Don’s wedding was nothing short of spectacular. The mixture of natural beauty found on this day with the love, laughter, and tears of joy shared by those who attended will be a concrete memory for everyone.
