Having been to New York City many times throughout our lives, we were honestly pretty shocked when we discovered Fort Tryon Park – a sort of mini-Central Park at the tip of Manhattan.
Our goal for Courtney & Ryan’s engagement session was to find a location in the city (since they both live there!) that would be unique and still give some pretty natural vibes. It was pretty funny to us that as we got to talking, it was a place they had never actually been too despite living in the city most of their lives. Well, now we consider it a must visit spot if you are planning to travel into NYC, or if you want to get some city vibes without getting into the hectic bustle of the downtown area.
Since this place was new to us (and it’s hard to judge it’s size when looking at it in Google Maps), we arrived a couple of hours early to check it out. Turns out – it’s a bit smaller than we expected, but that actually worked out perfectly as it made reaching all the spots we had in mind super simple.
We started the engagement shoot at the Met Cloister’s Museum (which is right in the park!). The Cloisters is a museum that houses a bunch of medieval architecture, sculptures, and decorative arts. Jes had actually visited there back in high school – though most of the memories are pretty foggy! 🙂
The Cloisters is a cool spot for photos because it features some really stunning European style architecture – if you’re wanting castle vibes in your engagement photos, this definitely hits the spot! We couldn’t help but reminisce about Game of Thrones because there were some serious King’s Landing vibes going on.
The rest of our time was spent walking around Fort Tryon Park itself. But we’ll let the pictures do the talking for what’s in store there.
While you check them out, it’s a good idea to picture the NYC vibes that come with this location. People watching is extremely fun (especially for suburb kids like us from a small city in Pennsylvania) – with people throwing parties and the occasional busking musician adding some saxaphone tunes to the air.
Courtney + Ryan’s engagement photos turned out so incredibly sweet! It made us that much more excited to shoot their wedding in the fall!
